Dennis Carter

A native of Danville, Virginia, Dennis Carter’s broadcasting career began back home when he took a job working for WBTM/WAKG Radio, covering sports in the Southside of Virginia. Shortly thereafter, the Danville Community College and Virginia Tech graduate made his way to WSET, the ABC affiliate in Lynchburg, Virginia and for 37 years covered every sporting event imaginable, large or small. Covering high school state champions, collegiate national champions, and professional sporting events, Carter was the face of sports broadcasting in Southwest Virginia for four decades. Carter has been honored numerous times by both the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters and Virginia Association of Broadcasters for his outstanding sports coverage, and in 2016 received the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters Meritorious Award for Best Sports Anchor of the Year at a Large Market Television Station. Away from the anchor desk and field of play, Carter has spent countless hours volunteering for the Virginia Commonwealth Games, and the Virginia Special Olympics Softball Tournament. Prior to his induction into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, Carter has been recognized by the Lynchburg Area Sports Hall of Fame, Amherst County Sports Hall of Fame, and Danville Community College Sports Hall of Fame.
