Nearly 21 years after his Major League debut, David Wright received the highest honors from the New York Mets on Saturday as the club retired his No. 5 jersey and inducted him into the Mets Hall of Fame.
Wright, who broke into the big leagues on July 21, 2004, against the Montreal Expos, was on a Hall of Fame trajectory early in his career. Over his first 10 seasons, he hit .301 with 222 home runs, 876 RBIs, and a strong .888 OPS, establishing himself as one of the premier third basemen in the game.
