ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Of the 300-and-something baseball writers who select the yearly inductees into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, Jon Morosi uses his voice to make sure each athlete gets a fair look.
“There is a really broad diversity of ideas when it comes to Hall of Fame voting about if you’re a ‘small hall’ person or a ‘big hall person’,” Morosi begins. “I am certainly a big hall person, at least in this sense of making sure that players get consideration year over year.”
A regular on Morosi’s ballot over the last few years, Southwest Virginia’s own Billy Wagner pitched 16 seasons in the majors and posts some of the best numbers of all time.
“He has been one of the most dominant relief pitchers in the history of the game, period. If you have a list of the four or five greatest retired players in terms of sheer dominance over a long period of time in the particular job they had Billy Wagner is there.”
