BLACKSBURG — Former Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer has been honored as a distinguished member of the American Football Coaches Association. Beamer was recognized at a reception Sunday as part of the AFCA Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. The organization cited Beamer’s continued dedication to football and bettering communities, embodying the goals and values of the AFCA.
During his 29 seasons as Virginia Tech’s head coach, Beamer’s Hokies posted a 238-121-2 record. His 280 career victories, including 42 in his six seasons as head coach at Murray State, rank sixth in FBS history and are 13th most in NCAA history.
