Virginia Tech’s Kenny Brooks remembers late mentor Lefty Driesell

BLACKSBURG — The college basketball world lost a legend when Lefty Driesell died last weekend.

Kenny Brooks lost a mentor.

Brooks, the women’s basketball coach at Virginia Tech, played for Driesell at James Madison. Driesell, a Norfolk native, also gave Brooks his start in the coaching profession.

“He’s meant a lot (to me) — a lot more than I ever would have imagined,” Brooks said Thursday. “He taught me how to be a better player. … He made me a better man.
