BENITA FITZGERALD – COLLEGIATE ATHLETE HALL OF FAME CEREMONY 2024

Benita Fitzgerald, who competed at Tennessee and was the first college woman to run under 13 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, won the final AIAW national title in 1981 and the first two NCAA titles in 1982 and 1983. She was the second American woman, after Babe Didrikson 52 years earlier, to win the straightaway hurdles Olympic gold medal when she won in Los Angeles in 1984. She discussed what it means to her to be part of the third class of inductees into the Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame.
