Billy Wagner wins fourth state championship as high school baseball coach two months before induction into Hall of Fame

Two months before his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Billy Wagner won his fourth state championship as head coach at Miller School of Albemarle (Charlottesville, Va.) on Sunday.

The hard-throwing left-hander took the job in 2012, two years after retiring from MLB at the age of 38 in 2010, where he reached his seventh All-Star Game as a closer. He finished his 16-year career with 422 saves and a 2.31 ERA with the Houston Astros, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves.

Now in his 14th season as head coach, Wagner has a 257-99-4 career record after the 2025 state championship.
