College basketball: Ranking the 20 greatest players in ACC history, Sampson #3

The ACC has historically been the nation’s premier college basketball league since its inception in 1953, with the likes of Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Chris Paul and David Thompson gracing the hardwood over the last 70 years. With no shortage of talent to pick from, ranking the conference’s top 20 players proved difficult.

When the ACC selected its 50th-anniversary team during the 2002-03 school year, the 50-man roster featured 17 players who earned National Player of the Year honors 22 times and 27 who earned consensus first-team All-America honors a total of 38 times. The conference has had four players earn Naismith Player of the Year honors since.
