Celebrating the storied careers of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame’s newest inductees
(HENRICO COUNTY, VA) – April 20, 2024 saw the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame welcome 9 new inductees and honor our Sportsperson of the Year, as part of the Hall’s 2024 Induction Ceremony at the Henrico Sports & Events Center in Henrico County. The 2024 Induction Ceremony was the culmination of a weekend full of events, as the Hall welcomed over 900 people to three events over the course of two days. This year’s Induction Weekend was also the first time in the Hall’s history the events were held in Central Virginia.
The weekend kicked-off with a Welcome Reception Friday April 19 at the Virginia Crossings Hotel in Henrico County. There the Hall of Fame welcomed the incoming inductees and their families for a relaxed evening that also featured an on-site broadcast from the Hall’s media partner, ESPN Radio Richmond, 106.1. Bob Black hosted his afternoon show featuring 8 members of the Class of 2024, and Hall of Fame Executive Director, Will Driscoll.
Induction Weekend continued the following morning, April 20, with Breakfast with Champions, where attendees got to enjoy breakfast with the new inductees, and also participate in a Q&A, and autograph session. Finally, the weekend culminated with the Hall of Fame Reception & Induction Ceremony, where sponsors, friends, family, and supporters got to meet & mingle with the Class of 2024, and witness their formal induction into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. Additionally, the Hall of Fame recognized its inaugural recipient of the Steve Guback Sportsperson of the Year Award, the Norfolk Tides AAA Baseball Club.
Adding to a weekend full of great moments, during the Induction Ceremony Henrico County Manager, John Vithoulkas, and Sports & Entertainment Authority, Executive Director, Dennis Bickmeier, presented Driscoll and the Hall of Fame with a check for $50,000.00.
The Hall is grateful to everyone who helped make the 2024 Induction Weekend a success, from our inductees both past and present in attendance, to our sponsors, event attendees, and volunteers.
