Wood: Golfer Wadkins no slowpoke on the course

If you have ever played any golf, you know how aggravating it can be to get behind a slow group of golfers or even have a slow-paced player in your foursome. It really can affect your enjoyment of the game.

At one time while living in south Florida, I belonged to a small amateur group that would play one-day tournaments at courses all over Palm Beach County. One of our members was an undertaker, about a 14-handicapper, who was so slow that everyone dreaded having to play with him. Jay was a nice guy, and maybe the dead didn’t mind waiting, but we did. If you had your mail in your bag, you could take it out and read it while Jay was agonizing over his next shot.
