December 1, 2021 marks the 58th anniversary of the late Wendell Scott’s only NASCAR Cup Series victory.
Even though the Virginia native was NASCAR’s only Black driver at the time, his historic victory at Jacksonville (Fla.) Speedway Park attracted scant attention. NASCAR hosted 2,045 more races—almost all featuring all-white fields—before a Black driver won again.
