Ferrum College celebrates MLB Hall of Fame election of alumnus Billy Wagner

FERRUM, Va. (WDBJ) – With more than 82% of the baseball writers’ vote, Southwest Virginia’s own Billy Wagner has been elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Ferrum College, where Wagner played baseball and football, held a private watch party Tuesday night to celebrate Wagner’s accomplishments and one of the biggest moments of his career.

“Today… the world knows that there’s a wonderful college, a magical college in Virginia called Ferrum College that puts out winners, and you, Billy, are a winner,” says Ferrum President Mirta M. Martin, Ph.D.

The newly-elected Hall of Fame relief pitcher credits Southwest Virginia and his time at Ferrum for building him into one of the greatest athletes in baseball through the high expectation of being a Black Hat.
