Wednesday was Ronde Barber Day in Tampa, Florida.
On Friday, it was Cave Spring High School’s turn to honor Barber.
Barber, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last month, was honored in a ceremony Friday night on the field at Dwight Bogle Stadium before the Cave Spring football team’s homecoming game.
The former Cave Spring High School, University of Virginia and Tampa Bay Buccaneers standout helped former Cave Spring football coach Steve Spangler unveil a large, bronze plaque bearing Barber’s likeness as fans cheered and applauded.
“I don’t currently have any of those [plaques] anywhere in existence, so that was pretty cool,” Barber, 48, said in an interview after the ceremony. “To see it in bronze and kind of immortalized and put in a place where everybody can see it, that’s pretty special.
