There are some big names in the new class of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
Salem resident Bob Rotanz is not one of those headliners, but he’s in the class, too.
Rotanz, a former Roanoke College men’s lacrosse standout, was one of eight people named Monday to the class of 2023 for the commonwealth’s sports hall of fame.
“It’s just crazy,” Rotanz, 66, said Monday in a phone interview. “I’m very, very, very honored.
“That’s kind of cool, that a lacrosse guy gets in there.”
The class also includes former Martinsville High School star and ex-Virginia quarterback Shawn Moore, former Virginia Tech and NFL defensive back DeAngelo Hall and former UVa and Washington Nationals standout Ryan Zimmerman.
