STAUNTON — Those who lived in Staunton or the surrounding area during the four decades Paul Hatcher coached basketball know the coaching part of the story — 897 wins, four state championships, a state-record winning streak, no losing seasons.
There are also a lot of people in Staunton who learned to drive with Hatcher, the behind-the-wheel instructor at the high school. He was also a golf coach and a standout basketball player at Bridgewater College. All of those stories have been told.
